Last Section of Trail Cleared – Get Out and Take a Look!

Nov 18, 2012 1 Comment by Bob Saur

Trailways volunteers have completed another milepost on the Rail Trail with brush clearing of the final section of the trail!  A group of twenty volunteers from Londonderry Trailways and the Derry Rail Trail Association completed brush clearing along the Little Cohas Brook portion of the abandoned rail line in North Londonderry.   The thorn brambles and thicket were no match for the dedicated volunteers who pushed through the final 1,500 feet to open the entire line.  It is now possible to walk along the rails from Harvey Rd near the airport to Mammoth Rd in the North Londonderry village.  The Little Cohas Brook area is one of the most picturesque areas in Londonderry with broad wetlands and a variety of wildlife.  If you haven’t seen it before it is definitely worth a walk to have a look.

Thanks to the volunteers who worked this fall to clear brush and trim trees along the line.

i am saddened and happy for the progress achieved with the rail trail. it will open many a peoples options to go out and do stuff. i`m a mtn biker and thats my reason to be saddened.its the last piece of rail bed left for any riding on dirt , thats close to me here in londonderry. the flip side to it also is that it makes my commute to exit 2 a lot easier. so keep up the good work and progress.
